This final project is action research. In this study, the writer limited
the discussion by stating the following problem: “In what way can the
use of “finding word game” improve students’ English vocabulary
mastery?”. The aim of the study was to ascertain the way in which the use of
“finding word game” can improve students’ vocabulary mastery to the
first grade in SMP Bakti Bangsa Bandung, academic year 2010/2011.
The result of the study can provide contribution for the teachers to apply another techniques and media dealing with the teaching learning process especially in teaching vocabulary. For the students, the result of the study will help them to memorize vocabulary better. There were four steps in conducting the Action Research i.e. planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This action research was done in three cycles.
The result of this research indicates that using game finding word can improved students’ vocabulary mastery and gave many benefits. Moreover students are able to improve their words not only to make a sentence but also to comprehend the text. The improvement occurred in three cycles. In each cycle students were able to mention 20 words and guessed the meaning of each word. The words that they mentioned before would be found on the text. They would find two texts. The first text would be discussed at class with teacher. The result of the students’ worksheet showed slow increase. However, the use of the game brought great effect on students’ vocabulary mastery. They became confident to answer the task after using game. Teaching learning process became more active. The students gave the best response when game was introduced. They were enthusiastic when they used the game with their friends.
Referring to this action research, I offer several suggestions. First, Teacher must understand students and class condition, because they may influence teaching learning process. Second, Teacher should encourage students’ vocabulary mastery and other researchers may conduct their research about learning vocabulary mastery. Third, The time management for students to study should be conducive to make the study more enjoyable. Forth, Teachers may bring other media besides game to make students close with the object if teachers find difficulties in giving samples.
